Dr. Mousumi Sarker Chhanda is a postdoctoral fellow at Université Laval, specializing in animal health, microbial ecology, and bacteriophage applications. She holds a PhD in Biology and so far, has published 18 peer-reviewed articles, with over 150 citations. With extensive experience in animal diseases, and molecular techniques, she leads innovative research on sustainable disease control and phage-based alternatives to antimicrobial treatments in animal production systems.

RÉSUMÉ DE CONFÉRENCE
Exudative epidermitis (EE), caused by Staphylococcus hyicus, is a significant swine disease and has become increasingly challenging to treat due to rising antimicrobial resistance. To evaluate phage therapy as an alternative, four bacteriophages were isolated from farm water and manure using S. hyicus as host. Genomic sequencing revealed two distinct species clusters : BQE1, BQE4, BQE7 in one and BQL4 in another. Genome sizes ranged from 115 to139 kbp. Transmission electron microscopy confirmed myovirus morphology for all phages. Host range assays demonstrated broad activity for all except BQL4. Notably, phage BQE7 exhibited stability across various temperatures, highlighting its therapeutic potential.
